A few things, used again

A modest pumpkin arrangement built around a tray and battery lantern you can keep.

Illustrated concept, not a photograph or a scale drawing. Use a sheltered, level surface. Keep the lantern dry and follow its outdoor-use rating.

Why this arrangement works

The lantern gives the group a centre, but leaving gaps prevents the arrangement from becoming a ring of clutter.

Adjust it to your space

Keep the switch and ventilation accessible. If the lantern is unsuitable for the setting, the fruit grouping works without it.

Put it together

  1. 01

Choose a tray and lantern you already own and check their condition.

  2. 02

Arrange the two larger fruit loosely around the lantern, leaving ventilation and switch access.

  3. 03

Place the minis together at one side rather than filling every gap.

  4. 04

Use only a battery light and keep the arrangement out of the walking route.

Make it your own

Skip the light entirely if your existing lantern is not suitable for the location.

A pale tan fruit can replace a white pumpkin without changing the layout.

Keep it looking good

Keep the display sheltered and away from direct sun. Check for soft spots, leakage and unstable placement. Remove damaged fruit promptly; painted or carved display fruit is not for eating.
