The little doorstep
Three pumpkins, one pot and enough breathing room to let every shape stand out.
Let an existing plant pot do some of the arranging for you.
The existing plant is the tall background; the pumpkins sit beside it as a separate, lower group.
Separate watering from the fruit. A dry saucer beside the pot is easier to inspect than fruit tucked into soil.
Check that the existing planter is stable and outside the doorway clearance.
Place a dry saucer beside the pot, rather than burying pumpkins in soil.
Set the medium fruit near the pot and work outward with smaller fruit.
Water the plant without soaking the pumpkins and check underneath the saucer.
Use a low pot or basket without a plant if watering would be awkward.
Keep fruit beside the planter if its rim cannot support a safe, level display.
Keep the display sheltered and away from direct sun. Check for soft spots, leakage and unstable placement. Remove damaged fruit promptly; painted or carved display fruit is not for eating.
